PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an inorganic oxide electroluminescent material producible in an easier and safer means, emitting light having a wavelength shorter than yellow light such as green light and blue light with a smaller energy consumption, having low loss converted to heat, etc., and causing little deterioration after the use over a long period. SOLUTION : The oxide electroluminescent material is composed of Sc2O3 doped with a rare earth element other than Sc. Preferably, the rare earth element is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI
