PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a technique, by which a work damage layer on the surface of a rare-earth magnet can be restored satisfactorily, using a practical and simple method.
SOLUTION : After a coating film containing a rare-earth element as the main component is formed on the surface of the elemental magnet body of a rare-earth magnet, the elemental magnet body having the formed coating film is heat-treated at a temperature of ≥900°C, while a load is applied to the body. In order to suppress the reaction with a jig, first-stage heat treatment is performed at a temperature of ≥500°C and <900°C, and thereafter, a second-stage heat treatment is performed at a temperature of ≥900°C while the load is applied. The coating film is formed after the elemental magnet body is worked mechanically to a prescribed thickness. At the time of forming the coating film, the thickness of the elemental magnet body is ≤2 mm.
