PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide permanent magnet powder in which a ThMn12 phase can be easily produced even in the case Nd is used as a rare earth element, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION : The permanent magnet powder has a composition expressed by the general formula R of (Fe100-y-wCowMoy)xSizAv {wherein, R is one or more kinds of rare earth elements, further, ≥50 mol% thereof is Nd, A is one or two kinds of N and C, and, regarding the molar ratios, x=10 to 12.6, y=(8.3-1.7×z) to 12, z=0.4 to 2.3, v=0.1 to 3 and w=0 to 30, and also, (Fe+Co+Ti+Si)/R>12 is satisfied}, and is composed of an assembly of grains with a mean crystal grain size of ≤200 nm.
