PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet which can form a protective layer with less defect and can maintain a good magnetic characteristic.SOLUTION : In the method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet, the magnet comprises a magnet element body 1 and a protective layer formed on the surface of the element body. The method has a step of forming the protective layer on the surface of the magnet element body by irradiating the magnet element body containing rare earth element with an electron beam in an oxidizing atmosphere.
