The invention relates to a transparent, paramagnetic polymer composition comprising a non-ethylene containing polymer complexed with one or more rare earth ions selected from the group consisting of elements 64-69, the amount of rare earth ions being at least 5 weight percent for elements 66-67, and at least 9 weight percent for elements 64, 65, 68 and 69 based on the total weight of the polymer composition wherein the polymer composition has a magnetic mass susceptibility of greater than 20x10-6 emu/g measured at 298°K.
