PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To optimize the grain size of a transition metal used as a raw material and to provide a rare earth type ferromagnetic powder capable of giving a magnetic powder having a size close to single domain particle size and high magnetic properties. SOLUTION : The method of manufacturing the alloy powder consisting of rare earth elements and at least one transition metal selected from Fe, Co, and Ni includes the following stages : a stage where cations of at least one kind of rare earth elements and cations of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Fe, Co, and Ni are allowed to react in a solution of a substance forming insoluble salt together with the cations to form precipitates : a stage where the precipitates are burned to obtain a metal oxide : a stage where the metal oxide is heated in a reducing atmosphere.
