The glow plug (10) has a resistance heater (810) that contains a ceramic composition and generates heat on conducting electricity. A holding element (860) mainly contains another ceramic composition, which is different from the former ceramic composition. The holding element contains silicon nitride as a main component, in which the resistance heater is embedded, and holds the resistance heater. The latter ceramic composition contains a rare earth element and aluminum.
