PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce a catalyst for partially hydrogenating aromatic olefins, in which ruthenium being an expensive rare resource is not used and which can hydrogenate the aromatic olefins partially in a three-phase-mixed reaction system having an oil phase, a gas phase and a solid phase to separate/purify a reaction product easily and can realize high selectivity while keeping hydrogenating activity, and to provide a partially hydrogenating method using this catalyst.SOLUTION : A first form of this catalyst for partially hydrogenating aromatic olefins contains a nitride of a rare-earth metal as the principal component. A second form of this catalyst is obtained by furthermore treating the nitride of the rare-earth metal with ammonia.
