Disclosed is a novel block copolymer containing a polyallylene ethynylene vinylene block. Specifically disclosed is a block copolymer containing a polyallylene ethynylene vinylene block and a polar polymer block which is characterized in that the polyallylene ethynylene vinylene block selectively contains a micro structure represented by the general formula (I), (II) or (III) below. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a copolymer which comprises a step of block copolymerization wherein living polymerization is performed using a polymerization catalyst containing a rare earth metal complex.
