The invention relates to a radiation protection mask which is made of at least one elastomer matrix material which is rolled into the form of a film, wherein elements having an atomic number greater than 50 or compounds thereof, are incorporated as lead-free radiation-absorbing materials. The aim of the invention is to improve said type of radiation protection mask such that it can protect, in a reliable manner, sensitive body parts against ionising radiation, and that it is easy to use, sterilise and that it can be to recycled. According to the invention, the matrix material which is cut into a shape and provided with radiation-absorbing materials, is inserted in the form of at least one film in a covering consisting of two sheets, and the edges thereof are connected together, preferably, by means of welding or stitching, until an area which is used to introduce or withdraw the matrix material. The radiation absorbing materials are made of bismuth and/or antimony and/or compositions thereof. Also, tungsten and/or rare earths, for example, gadolinium or cerium and/or tin in an elementary form or in compounds, are used as an additional additive.
