PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a rare earth magnet formed with a protective layer having excellent characteristics on the surface and exhibiting high corrosion resistance. SOLUTION : The rare earth magnet 1 comprises a magnet element 2 containing a rare earth element, and a protective layer 4 formed on the surface thereof. The protective layer 4 contains an organic polymer compound having an aromatic ring and an inorganic polymer compound having an aromatic ring. In the protective layer, π-π interaction takes place between the organic polymer compound and the inorganic polymer compound which are thereby bonded weakly.
