PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To inexpensively manufacture a magnetostrictive material with superior characteristics. SOLUTION : The method for heat-treating the super magnetostrictive material includes mounting a molded article containing at least one rare earth element and a transition metal on a holder for heat treatment, and heat-treating (for example, sintering) the molded article. The holder for heat treatment is formed of an oxide of at least one element among the rare earth elements included in the molded article, as a main component. For instance, the rare earth elements included in the molded article are Tb and Dy, and the oxide of the rare earth element contained in the holder for heat treatment is Dy2O3. Because the oxide of the rare earth element used in the molded article is employed as the main component of the holder for heat treatment, a reaction during heat treatment (sintering) between the holder for heat treatment and the molded article is inhibited. The holder for heat treatment preferably has a relative density of 80% or higher.
