PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a compacting method in a magnetic field capable of further improving orientation compared with the conventional one by using a pulse magnetic field, and to provide a method for producing a rare earth sintered magnet. SOLUTION : The compacting method in a magnetic field includes : a stage where magnetic powder is packed into a die; and a stage where a pulse magnetic field is applied to orientate the magnetic powder packed into the die. The pulse magnetic field is applied multiple times in the case, provided that H is defined as the magnetic field (T), the density ρof a green compact composed of the magnetic powder satisfies the condition of ρ=α×H0.5+β(α=0.63, and β=1 to 2).
