PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth magnet manufacturing method which can form a rare earth magnet having sufficiently excellent corrosion resistance and an adequately uniform thickness. SOLUTION : In the rare earth magnet manufacturing method, reactive chemical species formed from gas molecules which are generated by contacting at least one kind of gas molecules with a solid catalyst are contacted with the surface of a magnet elemental body containing a rare earth element, thereby, a protective layer formed of the reactive chemical species is formed on the surface of the magnet elemental body.
