PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To eliminate the generation of a phenomenon that the whole surface of an electrode is wet with the electrolyte, and to improve the gas absorbing ability on a hydrogen storage electrode, and to restrict the rise of inner pressure of the battery by coating the surface of a hydrogen storage electrode made of hydrogen storage alloy, which electrochemically absorbs and discharges hydrogen, with the water repellent material so as to give the water repellency. SOLUTION : At the time of manufacturing this hydrogen storage battery, a predetermined quantity of misch metal, which is formed of a compound of rare earth group element such as La, Ce, Pr and Nd, and Ni, Al, Co and Mn are measured, and dissolved in the inert atmosphere, and thereafter, left for cooling so as to manufacture an alloy having the predetermined composition, and this alloy is heated. This alloy is crushed so as to obtain the alloy powder, and thickener is added to this alloy powder so as to form it into the paste, and a nickel fiber board is filled with this paste, and dried and pressed so as to obtain a hydrogen storage electrode. This hydrogen storage electrode is coated with poly prefluorobuthenyl vinylether by spraying at a degree for obtaining water repellency.
