The burnishing process involves towing the blade (1) through an abrasive medium (27) by means of a towing device (36). The blade concerned may have an external corrosion-resistant layer applied to it by thermal spraying. This layer may be an alloy of iron, cobalt or nickel plus aluminum plus scandium, hafnium, lanthanum or a rare earth element.
