PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce an alkaline earth metal-containing MFI structure zeolite catalyst which is a zeolite catalyst giving the high yield of a lower hydrocarbon synthesized from dimethyl ether and/or methanol and has a small average particle diameter and improved catalytic service life, to provide a method for preparing the catalyst and a method for producing the lower hydrocarbon using the catalyst. SOLUTION : In the alkaline earth metal-containing MFI structure zeolite catalyst used in the synthesis of the lower hydrocarbon from dimethyl ether and/or methanol, the alkaline earth metal-containing MFI structure zeolite catalyst has the Si/Al atomic ratio of 30-400, the alkaline earth metal/Al atomic ratio of 5-15 and 0.05-2 μm average particle diameter.
