PURPOSE : Provided are a positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery which is improved in the density of active mass, and a lithium secondary battery containing the positive electrode. CONSTITUTION : The positive electrode comprises a positive electrode active material; and a plated carbon conductive material. Preferably the positive electrode active material is a nickel-based positive electrode active material. Preferably the nickel-based positive electrode active material is a compound represented by Li_x Ni_(1-y) M_y A2; Li_x Ni_(1-y) M_y O_(2-z) X_z; Li_x Ni_(1-y) Co_y O_(2-z) X_z; Li_x Ni_(1-y-z) Co_y M_z A_α; Li_x Ni_(1-y-z) Co_y Z_z O_(1-α) X_α; Li_x Ni_(1-y-z) Mn_y M_z A_α; or Li_x Ni_(1-y-z) Mn_y M_z O_(2-α) X_α, wherein 0.90<=x<=1.1; 0<=y<=0.5; 0<=z<=0.5; 0<=α<=2; M is Al, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, Fe, Mg, Sr, V or a rare earth element; A is O, F, S or P; and X is F, S or P. © KIPO 2006
