PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a multilayer ceramic capacitor which can make the difference among shrinking behaviors adequately small, and a method for manufacturing the multilayer ceramic capacitor. SOLUTION : A multilayer ceramic capacitor comprises a laminate structure arranged by alternately laminating dielectric layers including a ceramic as a primary component and internal electrode layers, having a substantially rectangular parallelepiped shape, and formed so that the internal electrode layers thus laminated are alternately exposed from opposing two end faces. At least one margin area of an end margin area where the internal electrode layers exposed from one end face are opposed to each other through no internal electrode layer exposed from the different end face in the laminate structure, and a side margin area provided so as to cover end portions of the laminated internal electrode layers, which extend to two side faces other than the two end faces in the laminate structure is lower in a rare earth element concentration to the ceramic primary component, and higher in a total concentration of Si and B in comparison to a capacitance region where internal electrode layers exposed from different end faces are opposed to each other in the laminate structure.
