PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp without causing a problem such as displacement of the lamp attributable to a lamp holder part or a contact failure due to volatilization of adhesive-included low-molecule siloxane even if tube wall temperature rises, or without needing a cooling fan. SOLUTION : In this rare gas fluorescent lamp, a pair of electrodes are arranged oppositely to each other on the outside wall of a straight tube-like glass bulb along its tube axis direction; a rare gas containing xenon gas as a main constituent is enclosed in the glass bulb; and a phosphor layer is formed on the inside wall of the glass bulb excluding an aperture part formed nearly throughout the total length in the tube axis direction. The rare gas fluorescent lamp is so structured that at least one end of the glass bulb is inserted into a cap-shaped lamp holder encompassing the one end; the lamp holder has a plurality of tongue piece parts forming a plurality of cut lines cut in the tube axis direction in a cap-shaped opening-side circumferential surface; and the lamp holder and the glass bulb are fixed by covering the plurality of tongue piece parts with a heat shrinkable tube.
