Poor soil is added to ponds (1) containing the manure and the latter is heated indirectly to generate volatile nitrogen compounds which are collected in water. A process for treating manure comprising faeces and urine in order to obtain fertilizer comprises a dewatering method carried out using natural techniques or using heat. Absorbent elements based on poor earth are added to manure being stored in ponds (1) and the manure is heated indirectly by electricity. Volatile nitrogen compounds are absorbed in water and the latter is collected in vessels (8). The soil, moist manure residue and nitrogen-containing water can be used as a fertilizer. An independent claim is also included for the manure treatment installation.
