Thermic analysis uses a small quantity of at least one element selected from rare earth metals, e.g. cerium, or lanthanum, for combining with a sample of the ball graphite casting, with measurement of the cooling curve. Quantity of the rare earth metal element or rare earth metal mixture combined with the ball graphite sample casting is less than 0.4 wt. %.
