PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for fixing carbon dioxide as a chemically stable substance easily at a low cost, a method for manufacturing an alkaline earth metal carbonate usable effectively, and a method for treating carbon dioxide or extracting an alkaline earth metal easily at a low cost. SOLUTION : In the method for fixing carbon carbonate, the method for manufacturing an alkaline earth metal carbonate, and the method for treating carbon dioxide, a gas containing carbon dioxide is made contact with an aqueous solution obtained from (1) water, (2) a substance containing an alkaline earth metal, and (3) a salt of a weak base and a strong acid to form an alkaline earth metal carbonate. In the method for extracting an alkaline earth metal, a substance containing an alkaline earth metal is made contact with an aqueous solution obtained from a salt of a weak base and a strong acid, where the alkaline earth metal is transferred as a salt of the alkaline earth metal and the strong acid into the aqueous solution.
