An aluminous ceramic composition comprised of a composite sintered compact composed of alumina as a main component and a composition of at least one element selected from among Al, Si, Mg and rare earth elements, wherein providing the amount of alumina as a main component is 100 pts.wt., the amount of composition of at least one element selected from among Al, Si, Mg and rare earth elements is 5 pts.wt. or less. There is further provided a spark plug whose insulator consists of the above aluminous ceramic composition.
