PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magneto-optical recording medium capable of performing higher-density recording by further improving the recording stability and the reproducing stability of magnetized information in the magneto-optical recording medium using a capacity enlarging technology such as a magnetic domain expansion reproducing technology. SOLUTION : The magneto-optical recording medium provided with a recording layer for recording information and a reproducing layer for reproducing information is characterized in that a first rare gas atom weight contained in the recording layer is larger than a second rare gas atom weight contained in the recording layer. Thus, an MsHc product is larger in the recording layer while an MsHc product is smaller in the reproducing layer. As a result, the recording stability and the reproducing stability of the magnetized information of the magneto-optical recording medium are simultaneously improved.
