PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an erbium additive fiber and an optical fiber laser which restrain damage of the erbium additive fiber caused by heat generation and can oscillate stably a laser beam of high power.
SOLUTION : A core constituted of fluoride glass with which rare earth elements are added, an interior cladding which is arranged in ambients of the core and consists of material with refractive index lower than the core, and an exterior cladding which is arranged in ambients of the interior cladding and consists of material with refractive index lower than the interior cladding, are disposed, and an absorption index of pumping light is 0.1 dB/m or more and 0.7 dB/m or less. In the optical fiber laser, outline configuration is carried out from a pumping light source 1, the rare earth elements additive fiber 2 of gain medium, a condenser lens 4, a collimate lens 5, a rear mirror 6, an end surface 7 subjected to reflection free treatment, and an output coupler 8. In the fiber laser, these are arranged at this order, and the absorption index of the pumping light of the rare earth elements addition fiber 2 is set as 0.1 dB/m or more and 0.7 dB/m or less.
