Colloidal dispersion of particles of a cerium compound and optionally a compound of titanium, zirconium, aluminum and/or other rare earth metals comprises a dye covalently bound to the particles through a coupling agent. Independent claims are also included for : (1) production of such a dispersion by adding the coupling agent to a starting dispersion and reacting the dye with the coupling agent; (2) a powder produced by drying the dispersion.
