A method for the preparation of 2-12C alpha-olefin polymers at -50 to +300 degrees C and 0.5-3000 bar in the presence of a catalyst system - uses a catalyst that contains the following components : (A) an (in)organic carrier ; (B) a metallocene complex ; (C) a metallocenium ion-forming compound ; and (D) optionally a metal compound of formula (I). M)r(R)s(R)t (I) M = alkali(ne earth) or Group III metal ; R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl, 1-10C alkyl-(6-20C)-aryl or 6-20C aryl-(1-10C)-alkyl ; R, R = H, halogen, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl, 1-10C alkyl-(6-20C)-aryl, 6-20C aryl-(1-10C)-alkyl or 1-10C alkoxy ; r = 1-3 ; and s, t = 0-2, with the provision that the sum of r-t is equal to the valency of M. An anti-static agent is also used with the catalyst.
