PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for easily manufacturing a magnesium alloy containing a prescribed amount of rare earth metal at a low cost for development of desired characteristics. SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing the magnesium alloy containing the rare earth metal comprises : adding a prescribed amount of a rare earth metal chloride to a molten salt bath containing a magnesium chloride; immersing a cathode and an anode into the molten salt bath; forming an inert gaseous atmosphere around the molten salt bath and performing electrolysis while controlling an amount of power supply to the anode and the cathode at a prescribed potential difference, thereby electrolytically depositing the magnesium alloy containing ≥0.05 to ≤2mass% rare earth metal on the cathode.
