PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare-earth-iron-nitrogen based magnetic powder having excellent heat resistance and magnetic properties, especially excellent coercive force and magnetization and to provide a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION : There is provided a rare-earth-iron-nitrogen based magnetic powder which comprises a rare earth element R, iron Fe and nitrogen N as main constituent components, wherein the average particle diameter having any crystal structure of a Th2Zn17 type, a Th2 Ni17 type and a TbCu7 type is 1 μm or more and 10 μm or less and a shell layer having a thickness of 10 nm or more and containing less than 10% of the powder average grain size in which 2 atom% or more and 20 atom% or less of Fe is substituted with Mn and N is 16 atom% or more and 24 atom% or less as the average composition is formed on the particle surfaces of the powder.
