This positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises : secondary particles formed by aggregating primary particles of a Ni-containing lithium composite oxide; a rare earth compound attached to the surfaces of the secondary particles; a tungsten compound attached to the surfaces of the secondary particles; and lithium carbonate attached to the surfaces of the primary particles inside the secondary particles. The proportion of Ni in the Ni-containing lithium composite compound is at least 80 mol% with respect to the total molar quantity of metal elements present in the Ni-containing lithium composite compound except for lithium. The contained amount of the lithium carbonate is at least 0.3 mass% with respect to the total amount of the Ni-containing lithium composite oxide. |
