PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To efficiently manufacture a magnesium alloy containing a rare earth element from magnesium difficult for melt casting and a rare earth element oxide difficult for reduction.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a magnesium alloy including a rare earth element includes : contacting a molten salt having as a main body a fluoride of an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal with a rare earth element oxide and molten magnesium in a reaction vessel maintained in an inert gas atmosphere of a higher pressure than a steam pressure of the molten magnesium to reduce the rare earth element oxide; and dispersing and migrating the reduced rare earth element metal in the molten magnesium.
