PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a technology capable of attaining high durability.
SOLUTION : In a friction agitation joining tool, which is a friction agitation joining tool containing silicon nitride, particles formed of a carbide, a nitride or a boride belonging to group 4-6, and a grain boundary phase, Vickers hardness is 14 GPa or higher, and at least a part of the grain boundary phase is formed from oxynitride of a rare-earth element and silicon, and in the oxynitride, an X-ray intensity ratio to silicon nitride is 0.05 or higher and 1.0 or lower.
