PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of producing a rare earth metal which enables separation of a plurality of rare earth metals with high purities and is easy to operate.SOLUTION : A method of separating rare earth elements from an object material containing iron and one or more rare earth elements includes a step of dissolving, in a molten salt, a metal more precious than the rare earth elements contained in the object material, a step of arranging a cathode electrode and an anode electrode using the object material in the molten salt dissolved with the metal to carry out electrolysis to dissolve constituent elements of the object material in the molten salt, a step of arranging a pair of electrodes in the molten salt dissolved with the metal and the constituent elements of the object material and control the potential of the cathode electrode so that the metal ion dissolved in the molten salt and iron ion dissolved from the object material precipitate simultaneously or separately or form an alloy so as to recover the metal ion and iron ion and a step of arranging a pair of electrodes in the molten salt and applying a voltage to generate a potential difference so as to cause rare earth elements dissolved in the molten salt to precipitate or form an alloy on the surface of one electrode. |
