PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber amplifier which can be downsized and reduce power consumption even if multi-stage connected, and a multi-stage amplification fiber structure appropriately available therefor.
SOLUTION : The present invention relates to a clad excitation type optical fiber amplifier comprising : an optical amplification fiber including multiple core parts to each of which a rare earth element is added, an inner clad part which is formed in an outer periphery of the multiple core parts and in which a refraction factor is lower than that in the multiple core parts, and an outer clad part which is formed in an outer periphery of the inner clad part and in which a refraction factor is lower than at in the inner clad part; and at least one excitation light source which supplies excitation light optically exciting the rare earth element to the inner clad part of the optical amplification fiber. The multiple core parts consist of multiple core part groups, the optical amplification fiber is configured in such a manner that gains are different from each other between core parts belonging to different core part groups, and a multi-stage optical amplification fiber structure is configured by connecting the core parts belonging to the different core part groups in series with each other.
