The present invention relates to an apparatus to join a friction spot and a method thereof using a sleeve on a main joining operation to expand a joining area to partially heat a target joining material to control an area and an amount of a material flowing to prevent a rapid plasticity flow in a joining portion of the target joining material. The joining portion is able to be improved in strength in materials having even a low melting point such as aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy. According to the present invention, the apparatus comprises : a pin installed to move rotationally and linearly in an axial direction to come in contact with a surface of a target joining material to weld the target joining material; a sleeve installed in an outer circumference of the pin, provided to move rotationally and linearly in an axial direction to come in contact with a surface of the target joining material; an axial direction linear movement unit connected on an upper portion of the pin for axial direction linear movements of the pin and the sleeve; a pin rotary unit and a sleeve rotary unit respectively connected to the pin and the sleeve to rotate the pin and the sleeve; a stator installed to surround an outer circumference of the sleeve, fixated to come in contact with a surface of the target joining material; and a heating unit installed in a lower end of the stator to heat and press the surface of the target joining material. |
