PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for separating rare earth elements, when a plurality of rare earth elements are mutually separated, capable of separating radioactive substance included in raw material from the rare earth elements by a simple method, thus capable of increasing the product purity of the rare earth elements, and further facilitating the treatment of the radioactive substance in the separation process.
SOLUTION : By a simple method comprising : an extraction removal step for radioactive substance comprising : an extraction removal step where a stock solution including a plurality kinds of rare earth elements and radioactive substance is contacted with an extraction agent of phosphate ester, phosphonic acid ester, tributyl phosphate or carboxylic acid, and the radiative substance is extracted to the side of the organic solvent to separate and remove the rare earth elements from the stock solution; and a separation step for the rare earth elements where the rare earth elements in the rear solution after the treatment subjected to the extraction removal step of the radiative substance are mutually separated by a solvent extraction method, the radioactive substance included in the raw material is separated from the rare earth elements.
