PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide structure that prevents prompt depletion of rare earth oxide, which is emitter material, due to excess evaporation of it from a cathode when the cathode is comprised of a main part made of tungsten including rare earth oxide as an emitter and a tip part made of pure tungsten joined at the tip side of the main part, in a short arc discharge lamp in which a cathode and an anode are placed facing each other inside an arc tube and the cathode includes an emitter made of rare earth oxide.SOLUTION : A short arc discharge lamp of the invention is characterized in that the aspect ratio, when an electrode axis direction is a longitudinal direction, of a tungsten particle in a main part 31 is larger than the aspect ratio of a tungsten particle in a tip part 32. |
