A titanium material which is provided with a base material and a coating film that is formed on the surface of the base material. The base material contains, in mass%, 0.005%-0.15% of a platinum group element, 0.0005% or more but less than 0.002% of a rare earth element, 0-1.0% of Ni, 0-0.5% of Mo, 0-0.5% of V, 0-0.5% of Cr and 0-0.5% of W, with the balance made up of Ti and impurities. The α phase of the base material has an average crystal grain size of more than 25 μm but 300 μm or less. The coating film is mainly composed of titanium oxide and a platinum group element, and has a thickness of 50 nm or less. This titanium material has low contact resistance after repeated application of a load, while exhibiting excellent moldability. |
