PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an R-T-B based sintered magnet having a high coercive force by forming a grain boundary phase including Ce and a heavy rare earth element, and a motor including the R-T-B based sintered magnet.
SOLUTION : An R-T-B based sintered magnet includes : a main phase comprising an R2T14B structure; and a grain boundary phase comprising (RHxCeyRL1-x-y)zM1-z (where, RH represents at least one element selected from among Tb, Dy, and Ho, RL represents at least one element selected from among Y, La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd, M represents at least one element selected from among Mg, Al, Si, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, In, Sn, Hf, Ta, W, and Bi, x satisfies 0.01≤x≤0.10, y satisfies 0.5≤y≤0.9, and z satisfies 0.25≤z≤0.55). The cross-section ratio Atre of the grain boundary phase with respect to the total magnet configuration organization satisfies 0.03
