PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an R-T-B based sintered magnet excellent in magnetic characteristics, in which the amount of heavy rare earth element to be used is reduced compared with conventional R-T-B based sintered magnets, and to provide a motor using the R-T-B based sintered magnet.
SOLUTION : An R-T-B based sintered magnet has a first main surface 1a and a first side surface 1c. The first main surface 1a has a coersive force higher than that of the side surface 1c. When the difference of coersive force between a part of highest coersive force and a part of lowest coersive force on the first main surface is ΔHcjM, ΔHcjM≤60 kA/m is satisfied. When the difference of coersive force between a part of highest coersive force and a part of lowest coersive force on a first cross section parallel with the first main surface 1a and separated therefrom by a predetermined length or more is ΔHcjG, ΔHcjG≤60 kA/m is satisfied.
