The present invention relates to an innate immunity-enhancing and anti-viral pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. as an active ingredient, an innate immunity-enhancing and anti-viral health-aid food comprising an extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. as an active ingredient, and an innate immunity-enhancing and anti-viral feed composition comprising an extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. as an active ingredient. The present invention also relates to a method for enhancing innate immunity and anti-viral activities of animals, which comprises administering an extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. to non-human animals in need thereof. The innate immunity-enhancing and anti-viral pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. according to the present invention shows an anti-viral activity and an effect enhancing innate immunity. Thus, the composition can be used for preventing and treating bacterial and viral infection diseases, and can be utilized widely for a pharmaceutical or health-aid food for enhancing and controlling immunity of an immuno-depressed or immuno-suppressed patient and for an innate immunity-enhancing and anti-viral feed for reinforcing the resistance of an animal against diseases.
