PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a C5+ compound at high yield while maintaining carbon atom number of sugar alcohol by water phase modification of a part of sugar alcohol having 5 or 6 carbon atoms and hydrogenolysis of the balance.
SOLUTION : There is provided a method for manufacturing C5+ by water phase modification of a part of sugar alcohol having 5 or 6 carbon atoms and hydrogenolysis of the balance while maintaining the carbon atom number. It includes heat holding a raw material solution containing sugar alcohol in presence of catalyst particles co-carrying a catalyst selected from Pt, Pd and Rh and a catalyst selected from Ir-ReOx and Rh-MoOx with SiO2 or TiO2.
