PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for easily and efficiently recovering rare earth elements from a rare earth element-containing product, and particularly to provide a method for easily and efficiently recovering rare earth elements from a rare earth magnet incorporated in a product.
SOLUTION : There is provided a method for recovering rare earth elements by heating and melting a waste of a product or a semi-product including a rare earth magnet and a steel material by adding a melting point depression agent, an oxidizer, and sodium borate, followed by separating into two phases of a rare earth-rich phase in which rare earth elements in the waste are concentrated in the sodium borate and an Fe-C phase.
