PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To coat faces of an R-T-B-based sintered magnet with a paste including powder particles for performing the quality modification of the R-T-B-based sintered magnet concurrently.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing an R-T-B-based sintered magnet disclosed herein comprises : the step A of preparing plate-shaped R-T-B-based sintered magnets (R represents a rare earth element, and T represents a transition element which must include Fe) 1 each having first and second principal faces parallel to each other; the step B1 of arraying the R-T-B-based sintered magnets 1 on a top face of a tray with suction bores so that the second principal faces are put in contact with the top face; the step C1 of applying, by screen printing, a paste including powder particles of a metal, alloy and/or compound of a heavy rare earth element RH (RH is Dy and/or Tb) to the first principal face of each R-T-B-based sintered magnet and the side face thereof while sucking each R-T-B-based sintered magnet 1 toward the tray through the suction bores; and the step D of diffusing the heavy rare earth element RH into each R-T-B-based sintered magnet 1.
