The present application relates to a method for providing a zinc and/or alkaline earth metal (M)-rare earth metal (SM) fluoride sol solution, a zinc and/or alkali earth metal (M)-rare earth metal (SM) fluoride sol, and a zinc and/or alkaline earth metal (M)-rare earth metal (SM) fluoride xerogel. The invention also relates to the use of the sol or xerogel in the prevention or treatment of carious lesions. The invention further relates to nano-composite materials and provision thereof, which, in addition to fluoride release, also fulfil the clinical requirement of radiopacity and can be integrated in filling materials. |
