PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth permanent magnet in which coercive force is increased while reduction of residual magnetic flux density of a sintered magnet body is suppressed, and a method for manufacturing a rare earth permanent magnet.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a rare earth permanent magnet includes the steps of : manufacturing an NdFeB sintered magnet 10; allowing a grain boundary diffusion material to be attached or adhered to the surface of the NdFeB sintered magnet in a form of mixed powder, the grain boundary diffusion material being formed of alloy powder 20 containing Re1aMb or M, and Re2 oxide or Re2 fluoride; and, by subjecting the grain boundary diffusion material to heat treatment in a state where the grain boundary diffusion material is present on the surface of the NdFeB sintered magnet, diffusing at least one or more of Re1, Re2 and M into a grain boundary part inside the sintered magnet or a grain boundary part region of a sintered magnet main phase grain. Here, each of the Re1 and the Re2 is one element selected from among Dy, Tb, Nd, Pr and Ho, M is a metal compound consisting of Cu, Zn, Sn and Al, and the a and the b represent atom %, a satisfying 0.1
