Provided are : a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which is capable of suppressing increase in the DCR after charge and discharge cycles; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is provided with this positive electrode active material. A positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which contains : secondary particles (21) wherein primary particles (20) of a lithium-containing transition metal oxide aggregate; secondary particles (25) wherein primary particles (24) of a rare earth compound aggregate; and particles (22) of an alkali metal fluoride. The secondary particles (25) of a rare earth compound adhere to recesses (23) that are formed between adjacent primary particles (20) in the surfaces of the secondary particles (21) of a lithium-containing transition metal oxide; and the secondary particles (25) of a rare earth compound adhere to both of adjacent primary particles (20) in the recesses (23). The particles (22) of an alkali metal fluoride adhere to the surfaces of the secondary particles (21) of a lithium-containing transition metal oxide. |
