PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high frequency assisted magnetic head with satisfactory recording characteristics.
SOLUTION : A high frequency assisted magnetic head 20 has a spin torque oscillation element 10 which includes : a nonmagnetic separation seed layer 1 which contains an element selected from W, Mo, Re, Os, and Ir, and which is directly formed over a main magnetic pole 21; a spin injection layer 2; a nonmagnetic intermediate layer 3; and an oscillation layer 4. The nonmagnetic separation seed layer 1 is formed between the main magnetic pole 21 and the spin injection layer 2.
