PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet powder capable of obtaining rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet powder particularly having high magnetic properties and excellent in surface stability.
SOLUTION : Provided is a method for producing rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet powder where carbonyl iron powder and the oxide powder of rare earth elements as raw material powder and alkaline-earth of a stoichiometric amount required for reducing the oxide or more are mixed to obtain a rare earth-iron-based alloy obtained by a reduction diffusion method, the rare earth-iron-based alloy is nitrided to obtain rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet crude powder, the same is charged to the medium stirring mill of a pulverizer together with an organic medium and a pulverization medium, pulverization is performed, and subsequently, the pulverized matter is dried. The carbonyl iron powder has a multicrystal particle structure, also the total quantity of impurities made of carbon, nitrogen and nitrogen is 1.0 mass% or lower, and the rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet crude powder is pulverized in such a manner that the average particle diameter (D50) of the obtained rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnet powder is controlled to 2.0 to below 3.5 μm.
